ABOUT

The Tanama Project has three elements: a comic book series, a parallel education initiative, and a movement whereby Tanama lends her name to projects in Haiti and around the world.

The common thread through the three elements is Tanama’s mission to engage children and youth in three activities:

Planting, protecting and learning about TREES because they are a natural climate solution, and children, youth and young adults are key to the success of the new global movement for reforestation.

Supporting and understanding the role of SMALLHOLDER FARMERS because 1/3 of the world’s population lives and works on smallholder farms, and with adequate support they can become a major force in planting trees to combat climate change and growing more food to feed us all.

Becoming agents for GENDER EQUALITY everywhere, but particularly for women smallholder farmers to have the same access to training and resources as men in order to be successful at planting trees and growing food.

Tanama is the creation of Haitian artist Thony Loui. While the comic book is set in Haiti, the themes are relevant elsewhere and Tanama speaks to children and youth everywhere.

The Tanama Project is in the process of reaching out to the Haitian Ministries of Education, Environment and Agriculture for their input and guidance.
